When I first became a member of Barrow upon Soar Station Adoptors Group I was keen to get involved with a scheme to beautify platform 2 with the addition of artwork along the fence. Discussions started in January 2022 and the first piece appeared in October 2023. By August 2025 the Fantasy Woodland Section of artwork was complete. Leaves painted by kids from Lime Tree Nursery completed the scene.
All the boards (animals, trees, bushes, flowers and leaves) for the project have been cut and finally securely fixed to the fence by Nick Thomas and prepared ready to paint and then varnished by Annette Richardson. The whole thing has been enhanced with flowers painted by local community groups. 96 artists, ranging in age from 4 years old to 70 years old, have painted a total of 109 flowers and 16 leaves to complete this vibrant community artwork. Barrow Station Adopters have added a sleeper wall and stunning planting along the whole length of platform 1 to make the station a lovely place to be. Funding provided by EMR.
